Why America Declared War Against Vietnam?

In short, the Vietnam war started as a result of U.S strategy of containment during the Cold War, which aimed to prevent the spread of communism throughout the world.
After the Second World War, World divided into two major political power houses, communist and democracy. China became a communist country after rebels, led by Mao Zedong, from 1950 America started to support South Korea in the war against North Korean communist rebels, North Korean communist backed by China And Soviet Union.
Vietnam was French colony until 1954 after peace treaty at Geneva conference, Vietnam was temporarily separated into two parts after the battle of Dien Bien Phu.
Then American feared that the whole Southeast Asia including Laos, Cambodia, Thailand would fall to communism in a domino effect as similar as what had happened in Eastern Europe (Domino theory). The U.S intervened in Vietnam trying to keep the South Vietnamese “domino” from falling.
